Fleet Safety Innovation Award presented to WJ Group.
WJ Group was presented the Fleet Safety Innovation Award at the UK Fleet Champions Awards 2022, for its driver behaviour scheme that monitors driver performance. The scheme helps ensure the safety of WJ Group’s drivers and other road users by encouraging and incentivising good driving.
With 570 employees operating a fleet of 384 vehicles, WJ Group works to ensure road markings are visible, surfaces are safe to drive on, and other road features are maintained. WJ Group has identified driving as the main risk to its employees’ safety. To decrease the risk of crashes or injury, the company has introduced a telematics-based driver behaviour scheme that rewards the safest and most improved drivers.
The scheme enables WJ Group to grade its drivers according to behaviours such as acceleration, speed, braking, fuel consumption, and daily vehicle check compliance. Good performance is a score of 90% or higher, and the highest performing drivers receive a cash bonus.
Since the introduction of the scheme in 2020, WJ Group has seen average driver performance scores increase from 87.58% to 95.17%. Less than 1% of drivers achieve scores below 84.9%, and crashes and collisions have reduced by 40%. Alongside improved driver safety, emissions and costs for vehicle maintenance have also reduced.
The Fleet Safety Innovation Award was presented to WJ Group at the UK Fleet Champions Awards 2022. The award was sponsored by FORS, and celebrates the fleet operator or supplier that has developed an approach to fleet safety that saw the highest success in 2022.
