Trakm8 offers technology solutions that help give fleet managers insights into key areas of their business – from carbon emissions and fuel expenditure, to road safety and driver behaviour.
Working in partnership with Altrad Services UK, it has contributed to a reduction in road incident numbers across the business and improved Altrad’s understanding of early intervention for safety.
Altrad began working with Trakm8 to gain detailed behaviour analytics for all its drivers. Trakm8 telematics devices were installed in every vehicle in Altrad’s 1,400+-strong fleet. These were used to identify patterns of behaviour, high-risk drivers, and make them safer through education.
The telematics devices recorded and communicated all incidents of higher-risk driving behaviours, such as harsh braking, heavy acceleration, sharp cornering and speeding. The software collated these into percentage scores, and used a traffic light system to help identify the safest drivers and which would most benefit from intervention.
All new drivers were assessed through the telematics data during the first three months of their employment. Existing drivers were also subject to risk assessments. Once complete, Altrad built profiles for high-risk drivers. From this, it tailored bespoke e-learning courses for identified drivers focusing predominantly on their areas of weakness.
The impact of this partnership is that Altrad’s overall telematics driver score has improved from 62% to 93%. Incident numbers have also reduced from 253 to 170 per year. This is supported by a reduction in driver speeding fines, and a reduction in total body repair spend of 40%.
Trakm8 and Altrad won the 2020 Fleet Safety Partnership Award at the UK Fleet Champions Awards.
