TES 2000

TES 2000 is a contractor to the rail industry based in Colchester, UK.

Due to increasing fleet costs, in 2019 the organisation decided that its fleet department needed reorganising, including the recruitment of a professional fleet manager. This new hire was appointed on 1 April 2020, and worked through a national lockdown to rewrite the fleet’s policies and Driver Handbook.

The Fleet Manager identified that driver training was insufficient, so procured an external organisation to run a training course. They also recognised that TES 2000’s telematics system needed further work, so purchased a new system that enabled better interaction with drivers. Other developments during the last year include: procurement of an app to facilitate sharing company policies, the driver handbook and monthly toolbox talks; and a new incentivisation scheme where the top four drivers were rewarded each month.

Introducing these measures has led to TES 2000 experiencing impressive improvements in driver behaviour. Four in five drivers now score more than 95% each month in the driver reward scheme which has translated to significant financial savings in damage and fuel costs. The organisation’s insurance premiums have reduced by 13%, at-fault damage caused by 75% compared with the previous year, and fuel costs by 15%.

TES 2000 won the 2021 Company Driver Safety Award (Small Fleet) at the UK Fleet Champions Awards.
