Magenta Technology

Magenta Technology’s Ride Share algorithm wins the Sustainable Journeys Award.

Magenta Technology Corporation was presented with the Sustainable Journeys Award at the UK Fleet Champions Awards 2022 for its innovative scheduling software and ride-sharing algorithm that helps organisations transport people in more efficient and sustainable ways.

Magenta Technology creates automated scheduling and dispatch systems for the fleet industry. In recent years, it has focused on ground passenger transportation, working with organisations that have large numbers of passengers and employees to transport.

The award-winning shared rides algorithm works alongside journey-planning software that groups individually booked passenger journeys into a single-vehicle, multi-stop trip. The adaptable algorithm schedules journeys for maximum efficiency, reducing both mileage and the number of empty seats in vehicles.

In 2020, Magenta Technology introduced Ride Share to one of its clients – a major airline operating in Dubai. At the time, the airline was planning all journeys manually, requiring hours of work for the operations team. After the airline introduced the ride-sharing algorithm, it was able to reduce its daily mileage by up to 3,400 miles (5,500 km) and the number of required drivers by 15%, while completing 10% more jobs prior to using Magenta’s systems.

The airline’s operations team was also able to work more efficiently now that it no longer needed to book journeys manually. Even though Ride Share was introduced during the coronavirus pandemic, when the airline was running a reduced fleet of 50 vehicles, it was still able to save more than 50 hours of driving time across its fleet.

Magenta Technology is now in the process of introducing its technology to companies in the UK and other countries, to help fleets move to a safer and more sustainable way of transporting people, with fewer vehicles on roads.

On winning the award, Nadia Temple, Head of Product at Magenta Technology, said:

“We are deeply honoured to receive this award for Magenta’s exciting innovative technology we have put so many years of dedication and research into. At Magenta’s core, we are driven by the goal of enabling our users to achieve more with fewer resources, and this recognition further fuels our passion to continue pushing for a sustainable and efficient travel industry.”

The Sustainable Journeys Award, sponsored by DriveTech, was presented to Magenta Technology Corporation at the UK Fleet Champions Awards 2022. The Sustainable Journeys Award celebrates the enabling of shared or active journeys like walking or cycling, and champions journey rerouting to reduce distances travelled by motorised vehicles.
