Fleet managers can now access a new factsheet to help them better understand how technologies can contribute to safer road risk management.
Global Fleet Champions has published guidance on choosing technologies that can mitigate against driver error, prevent road crashes from occurring, and reduce the risk of death or serious injury if a crash occurs.
The factsheet is based on a webinar called Spotlight on… Using technology to manage road risk, which was broadcast in June 2020 and featured insights from vehicle technology expert Dr Nick Reed.
It covers the potential benefits of everything from driver monitoring systems to autonomous vehicles, and addresses the challenges that fleet managers may face if implementation is not properly planned.
This factsheet should be especially relevant for fleet managers as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as intelligent speed assistance will soon become mandatory in all new vehicles produced across the European Union.
Global Fleet Champions factsheets are for anyone who manages people who drive for work, regardless of budget, fleet size or vehicle type, and are designed to give managers short, simple advice on key road safety topics.
Scott Williams, head of programme delivery at Brake, the road safety charity, said: “Vehicle technologies that help improve driver and vehicle safety are evolving rapidly. To have the best chance of reducing road crashes and protecting drivers and members of the public, fleet managers need to know about the most important technologies and the benefits that they can bring.
“We are delighted to publish this factsheet to help fleet managers understand how technologies can assist them in managing road risk. We hope they find it useful in working towards our shared goal of safe and healthy mobility in fleets.”
