Factsheet focuses on getting the most out of your telematics data

1 June 2021

Global Fleet Champions has published its latest factsheet to help fleet managers improve the safety of their organisations.

The new resource, sponsored by MiX Telematics, provides helpful advice about making the most of telematics systems to reap real benefits for fleet safety.

The factsheet covers what sort of things fleet managers should be monitoring with telematics, as well as the questions they should be asking suppliers and strategies for successful implementation.

It is based on a webinar broadcast on Tuesday 20 April 2021, which was also sponsored by MiX Telematics, and featured presentations from experts across the fleet safety landscape.

Contributors included:

  • Andy Price, Director of Fleet Safety Management
  • Matthew Hammond, Head of Fleet at Altrad
  • Jim Noble, Vice President of Risk Engineering at eDriving
  • Glen Mitchell,  Product Strategist at MiX Telematics

Telematics systems are in-vehicle data recorders which are capable of monitoring and recording information about how vehicles are driven, they also provide meaningful information and data in the form of connected systems that further enable customers to improve efficiency, safety and compliance..

They can be used to help fleet managers better understand driver behaviour, by analysing harsh braking, harsh cornering and speeding, as well as vehicle performance and other common risk factors.

Scott Williams, head of programme delivery at Brake, the road safety charity, said: “Telematics systems can let you capture a huge amount of data about the journeys driven on your organisation’s behalf – but understanding how to use this data effectively requires careful thought. With the proven benefits that telematics can have for driver safety, it’s vital that fleet managers use resources like this to find out how they can get the most out of the technology to reduce road risk within their fleet.”

Jonathan Bates, Executive Vice-President of Marketing at MiX Telematics added: “Telematics plays a huge part in making fleets safer. The data can be overwhelming, with the right partner at your side you can achieve significant results like our customers did over the past 25 years.”
